Samuel C. Lee
Preface
He is the founder of UBF together with Sarah Barry, yet prefers to be called a "shepherd." In fact, his tombstone is engraved: Shepherd Samuel Lee. His biography is not available, but his life story is known through his manuscripts, daily bread, letters and reports. Briefly, he pioneered 100 chapters in Korea and sent out 1,500 lay missionaries to 85 countries. We share his profile and personal testimonies about him.Profile
- October 9, 1931: Born in Osaka, Japan as the second son of Young Jun Lee and Eun Soon Chang
- Graduated from Shinheung High School in Jeonju, Korea
- 1957: Worked as an evangelist for Chungwoong Church in Imsil, Korea
- 1959: Graduated from the Chongshin Presbyterian Seminary in Seoul, Korea
- March 26, 1959: Married Grace A. Lee, the eldest daughter of Elder Chun, and had three children together: Grace, Samuel, and Sarah
- 1959: Worked as co-training pastor for Dukjin Church in Jeonju, Korea
- 1959: Worked as co-training pastor for the American Southern Presbyterian Church
- 1960: Graduated with BA degree in Philosophy at Chonbuk University
- September 1, 1961: Started UBF at 176-1 Daein-dong, Kwangju in Korea with Sarah Barry
- 1966: Moved to Seoul and continued campus ministry at 25 Hyojae-dong Street, Jongro in Korea
- 1967: Attended the IFES International Conference in Amsterdam, Netherlands
- 1968-1977: Published 32 books of the UBF devotional, Daily Bread
- 1969: Sent out the first three lay missionaries to West Germany (Ingyung Suh, Hwaja Lee, Dongran Sul)
- August 3-7, 1971: Held Summer Bible Conference at Soongshil University in Seoul (1,000 students attended) and gave the prayer topic for Summer Bible Conference at Niagara Falls with 200 attendees within 10 years
- September 16-22, 1974: Led Summer Bible Conference in Switzerland with 170 attendees (Highlight of the program: My Life Symposium)
- July 1975: Led Summer Bible Conference at Niagara Falls (an answer to prayer)
- July 1975: Led Summer Bible Conference in Frankfurt with 220 attendees including 40 natives
- June 14, 1977: Moved to USA and established the headquarters of world mission in Chicago
- June 19,1978: Gave the 1st World Mission Report in Seoul, Korea
- July, 1981: Held Summer Bible Conference with 420 attendees at Niagara Falls, including 220 American students
- July 1985: Held the 1st International Summer Bible Conference at the Michigan State University (MSU)
- 1985: Gave the prayer topic for pioneering Russia at the Seoul World Mission Report
- August 28, 1990: Three lay missionaries went to pioneer Moscow State University (an answer to prayer)
- 1991: Received honorary Ph.D. in literature from Chonbuk University
- September 12, 1994: Gave World Mission Report to celebrate the sending of 1,000 lay missionaries at the 100th Anniversary Memorial Hall of Korea Christianity
- 1995: Gave the prayer topic for North America to be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation
- May 24,1998: Gave the 14th World Mission Report at Seoul Fencing Gymnasium with 10,000 attendees
- July 26-29,2001: Held the International Summer Bible Conference with 2,350 attendees at the Illinois State University (ISU)
- January 8, 2002 : Call to heaven (Homecoming ceremony with 1,000 guests worldwide)
