In 1991 Sarah Barry wrote a history of UBF as her gift for Samuel Lee on his birthday. The year marked the thirty years of founding UBF. As his partner from the beginning Sarah Barry not only witnessed all the major events in UBF, but also had planned most of them. Due to limited time her story largely depended on her recollection. Yet, this personal account carries its authenticity and remains as an invaluable resource.

This is his dissertation published in 1990. He finished his Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Chicago. Afterwards he pursued his Th.D. at the Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He used the history of UBF as a primary basis for his thesis. In the history of Christian church, UBF is unprecedented. So there were benefits and controversies as a new model of the church. He followed her story in light of young tent makers.
